Health Fair

Hi Everyone!  I took about a week or so off from blogging to regroup!  It has been a super fast paced couple of weeks for me and I am sure you too!

I wanted to share with you what our county does each year for our children.  Each school in the county has a health fair.  Students from The University Of Alabama come in mass and do all kinds of screenings on our children.

They take over the lunchroom and library.

The workers check vision, hearing, height, weight, blood sugar, heart rate and many other basic screenings that I didn't get a picture of.

This was part of an email we received about the success of the health fair.

During the health fair Thursday, we had a 3rd grade girl with elevated
blood sugar. Her mom was called and then we called her family physician.
She was taken to Children's Hospital ER and admitted...she is Type 1
diabetic.

This health fair has been wonderful helping parents detect problems early. I am
thankful our county has this each year for our children. I don't know how this is
funded, I just know that it is worth the cost!

  2. I've never heard of that but what an awesome idea. The most we have is the health nurse checking the hearing of the K students and that's it. Have a great day!
